Across Kenya’s pastoralist communities, too many girls face barriers that prevent them from completing their education and realising their dreams. Murua Girl Child Education Program exists to change that.

We are a grassroots organisation working with Indigenous communities in Narok, Kajiado, Samburu, Isiolo, and Marsabit to create a future where every girl is safe, educated, and empowered to lead. By combining education, mentorship, advocacy, and climate resilience initiatives, we help girls overcome challenges, strengthen their voices, and unlock opportunities for themselves and their communities. When girls thrive, communities thrive. Together, we are nurturing a generation of young women who are preserving culture, driving positive change, and building a more resilient future for all.

Over the past 11 years, Murua Girls has directly impacted thousands of lives across Kenya’s pastoralist communities. We have mentored more than 15,000 girls, strengthened literacy and educational outcomes in 42 schools, trained 82 boda boda riders and youth champions to advocate for girls’ rights, and equipped 225 women with skills and support to establish kitchen gardens that improve household food security and resilience.

Through girl-led advocacy initiatives, we have engaged 110 community leaders in collective action to end Female Genital Mutilation (FGM) and promote the protection of girls. These efforts have contributed to remarkable results, including a 100% transition rate for girls in the 42 schools we support, a reduction in FGM prevalence from 80% in 2015 to 52% in 2024 in Narok County, and a growing shift in community attitudes toward girls’ rights. Today, more families, leaders, and community members are actively investing in girls’ education, mentorship, and leadership, creating a powerful movement for lasting change.
